In this masterclass, that he delivered in 2023 as part of the MIFA Campus at the Annecy International Animation Film Festival, award-winning screenwriter and UTS Animation tutor Laurent Auclair explores the ins and out of creating and developing memorable characters. If you’ve ever wondered what makes a character stick in our mind long after we’ve watched a movie, or how to make a character both visually and emotionally interesting for the audience, this is a masterclass for you.
About Laurent:
Laurent is a French-Australian writer for the stage and screen, with credits including international animation co-productions ‘Vic
the Viking’, ‘Heidi’, ‘Tashi’ and ‘Pfffirates’ along
with the iconic Australian serial ‘Home and Away’ and three plays under his belt, the latest one, “French
Letter and Leather Cleaner” produced
at WorldPride Sydney 2023 as part of the RIPE Program from Fruitbox Theatre.
He also has feature film scripts in development, two of them have been accolated in various international script competitions (including Best Australian Screenplay at the 2020 Australasian Film Festival of Time) and he has published four illustrated books for young readers along with a collection of 12 dystopian/sci-fi short stories, and one children picture book.
Laurent teaches for the Bachelor in Animation Production at UTS in Sydney and he is a film reviewer on the radio show ‘Cinemascape’ (Eastside FM), and the co-creator/producer of the limited podcast series ‘An Ordinary Australian’. He is also the co-creator and Artistic Director of the Anim’Action Film Festival.
