A revitalised Newstead House

We are thrilled to be hosting one of the first events held at Newstead House since its recent renovation. First built in 1846, this iconic heritage site is Brisbane's oldest surviving European residence. Starting in 2021, works have been undertaken to repair and revitalise the building, and are now complete.

In its heyday, this grand home was at the centre of Brisbane's social life and had a reputation for hosting the most lavish parties. Together, we'll bring new energy and laughter into this beautifully preserved piece of Brisbane's history, celebrating the connection between past and present.

Music by Estampa Trio

Evoking visions of Parisian laneways, South American sensuality and the unbridled joy of jazz, is a group of diverse musicians delivering energetic, internationally-inspired performances.

Rooted in the traditions of French jazz and Brazilian Bossa Novas, Estampa provides a unique musical experience that will leave you feeling like you’ve entered a 1930’s Parisian jazz club.

Vintage French car display

The front lawns will boast a stylish display of vintage French cars throughout the years, courtesy of the Citroën Car Club of Queensland.

Each vehicle showcases innovative engineering whilst embodying timeless French design. The exhibit will highlight the French brand's most distinctive and historically important models, with club members on hand to share their passion for these vehicles and the cultural significance of the Citroën legacy.

Wait - what even is Beaujolais Nouveau?

Beaujolais is a French wine region which sits between Burgundy and the Rhône. This little gem of Eastern France is known for producing bright, fruity red wines from the gamay grape. These lighter-bodied, vibrant reds are perfect to enjoy here in Australia as we enter the warmer months.

The highly anticipated release of the young reds produced from the year's vintage, known as the 'Beaujolais Nouveau' is celebrated each year on the third Thursday of November. The tradition goes as far back as the 1800s, when Beaujolais growers would gather to toast to end of the year's harvest with a glass of the young wine produced that year.

The fanfare and carnival-like celebrations have since become a much-loved tradition in France and indeed around the world. Many producers take the opportunity to showcase their creativity each year, revealing new, often colourful designs, reflecting the festive atmosphere. We're delighted to bring this tradition down under, to celebrate in true French style - with a glass of wine in hand!
